Is Obama saying he won't negotiate about the budget on the debt ceiling?
On that one I do want him to negotiate. It's unreasonable to expect a clean debt limit raise (unless it's a short-term measure while negotiations are going on). We have to get entitlements under control, but I'll be looking for new revenues from the Republican side. That, of course, will be the huge sticking point. It will probably precipitate another debt limit crisis. Dems won't accept any long-term spending plan that doesn't include revenue increases, and the GOP won't put any new revenues on the table. So we'll be back to square one.
But I was under the impression Dems were willing to negotiate on the budget, just not on Obamacare. Their messaging has been a little confusing lately. What, exactly, do the Dems want? I know they want govt. reopened, and a clean debt ceiling raise, but for how long on the debt ceiling? A year is too long, the GOP would never go for it, and the public expects compromise on THAT one.
