Two girls, thirteen and fourteen, are at a party with older boys, athletes, who give them lots of alcohol, force them to have sex, video tape it, then dump one of the girls on her lawn in freezing weather. The police do investigate. They get a warrant and execute it quickly, getting samples, the bedsheets, interviews and videotaped confessions. This is along with the rape kits and the police think they have an excellent case.
The prosecutor drops the charges.
The family of the alleged (and admitted) rapist has political connections, he's a popular athlete, and one of the girls had just moved to town. So the town blames the girls of course. More than that, it sure looks like they burned down the girl's house. They had moved away at the time and the house was for sale, so thankfully no one was hurt.
This makes me very angry. Sorry for the understatement.
