Interesting article in New Scientist about bio-film forming bacteria evolving additional flagellum in the lab in a few generations.
Whilst this makes it easier for the bacteria to more efficiently spread out and consume more nutrients in the petri dish, it also makes them more active and less likely to remain bonded in a bio film making combating the bacteria easier.
