Harry Dunn: Hit and run driver worked for US intelligence

So to recap for those unfamiliar with the case Harry Dunn was a teenager run down near a US airforce base by Anne Sacoolas a US citizen and spouse of an officer at the base while driving on the wrong side of the road. She was interviewed and released pending further investigation, at which pooint diplomatic immunity was invoked and Sacoolas returned to the USA, where the US government adamantly refused to extradite her. It seemed like an extreme reaction by the US and there was much speculation that there had to be more to it than simply an overzealous protection of a US citizen. One speculation was the Sacoolas might be an intelligence officer and that now appears to have been confirmed:

With as the headline says the added wrinkle that the UK government was not aware of her status and if they had known this would have thrown her claim of diplomatic immunity into question.
