Raspberry Pi Overscan

I've just upgraded to a Raspberry Pi 4, basically to see how well it would replace my desktop if things go phutt (since it's now 10 years old and one of the drives, luckily not the system drive it turned out, did a couple of days ago) and the overscan code in the config.txt file nolonger works in Rasperian. Apparently it's nolonger part of the build, they've said it will be back ported but I don't know when.

Unfortunately the cheap TV I'm using as a monitor lacks adjustment for this. I can solve the problem by disabling the 3D acceleration, easy enough but a bit of a PITA when I want to play Jedi Academy! (Incidentally, running perfectly, unlike on my desktop PC!).

Anyone know any other ways around this problem? (Or anyone experiencing it want instructions on disabling 3D acceleration of course)
