There is a totally nonsensical $22 million lien on my home

I thought I had started a thread - but can't find it. Bottom line: I am selling my modest home and yesterday or so it was discovered that there is a $22 million lien against my house. Actually not even against my house, but against a normal-size vacant lot. I had the house built from scratch in 2000.

This was not discovered until I was close to closing this deal and a title company was preparing to pay off the $5,000 left on my mortgage. I've been told to look for "closing statements" and "title policy." Nothing has exactly those words on it. In a document "Commitment for Title Insurance" I do see that Schedule B contains Item 3 indicating a $22,000,000.00 lien was recorded on May 7, 1999. There is a trustor, a trustee and a beneficiary. The trustee and beneficiary are the same bank. The trustor is a limited liability partnership.

I had no problem getting financing in 2000; I had no problem getting it refinanced in 2002. I'm not too upset, I wanted to delay closing for 2-3 days anyway. But WTF? It was a vacant lot in a vacant neighborhood. Is it conceivable that mistakenly my lot got charged for the whole vacant subdivision?

Has anyone ever heard of anything similar?
