Gay men excessively promiscuous?

Research seems to suggest male homosexuals are exceedingly promiscuous, and the theory is this shows "true male nature unfettered by female needs".

I don't know enough about this to know if this is true. Can someone with more experience advise? Are gay men super promiscuous (and, they suggest, lesbians hypermonogamous)?
