A new study has been published showing that dinosaur eggs were incubated for far longer than previously thought. It was previously believed that dinosaur eggs hatched after a similar amount of time to bird eggs, but it has now been shown that dinosaur embryos continued to develop in their egg for about 6 months. The researchers have suggested that this may be a key factor in the extinction of the dinosaurs at the end of the Cretaceous when amphibians, birds, insects and mammals survived.
