USA is the 32nd best place to be a girl

Based on a new Save the Children report (link; 1MB PDF) on the welfare of girls worldwide the United States is rated in 32nd place, behind Sweden, Finland, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Slovenia, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Israel, France, Canada, Serbia, Australia, Poland, Estonia, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Greece, South Korea, Macedonia, Ireland, Kazakhstan and Algeria.

The poor performance of the US is mainly down to high rates of maternal death, poor access to contraception and subsequent high rates of teenage pregnancy and poor representation of women in government.
