I am very much enjoying 'Bess of Hardwick' by Mary S Lovell (having recently listened to 'A Scandalous Life', a superb biography of Lady Jane Elizabeth Digby by this author). When Robert Deverux marched into the Queen's bed chamber early one morning, he found the Queen had just got out of bed. The Author says that the Queen's breasts were exposed and this was because unmarried women dressed thus. It's a bit tricky to find the right place on the talking book, but in any case there was no further explanation. Does anyone know more about this? I've tried googling, but not sure what to put in for the search.
Thank you.
Thank you.
