Medical examiner will cease transporting corpses in open-bed pickup

The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office no longer will transport bodies in an unmarked, open-bed Silver Dodge pickup, says Sheriff Rick Ramsay. Medical Examiner Thomas Beaver, 59, came under fire from the sheriff, County Administrator Roman Gastesi and other local leaders for transporting at least four corpses to his building on Crawl Key off mile marker 56.5 bayside. Residents lodged complaints with Ramsay and Gastesi for Beaver using the open-bed pickup for corpses, saying it's disrespectful.
