Making alcohol/wine at home

Since my wife passed away (it's been like 3 years now) I find I like to have a drink now and then :) ... a bit of partying meet new people etc.

I was never much of a drinker and found the cost prohibitive,so I searched on-line for ways to make booze at home.

I wasn't interested distilling as it's not legal in Canada, and I'm not a beer drinker AND I really did not want to put a lot of effort into it either :)

I came across "Turbo Yeast" and wanted to share my experience, Its fast simple and makes a clear "vodka like" alcohol of about 18 to 20% (36 to 40 proof) in 5 or 6 days.

The procedure I perfected after only three batches is easy, there's so much info on line but here's the cliff notes version

I use "Alotec Turbo Yeast" ... just pour in 25 litres of hot water to a big bin, add 8KG of sugar and the yeast, stir and wait 5 days, clarify it with a finings packet, let the yeast settle out for another half day or so ... watching the temperature of the batch carefully to keep it hot enough (but not too hot) is the key to getting higher alcohol in that short of a time period

Then siphon it off, (leaving the 1" of dead yeast behind) filter through a fine screen, then filter it through a Brita Filter ... end result is surprisingly palatable when mixed with Mio or Concentrated fruit juice and only costs about 98 cents a litre

And like I mentioned perfectly legal to make and almost 20% alcohol ... compared to $26 a litre for Vodka here in Canada it's a bargain and a half :)
