I'm kicking this off with a situation from yesterday with a HVAC Technician. I've dealt with the company for at least 12 years and they have serviced or replaced every part of of the AC and Furnace; this time he replaced a capacitor which is a small cost. While he was here, he tried to turn it into a big ticket item. Number one wasn't so big just an annual maintenance contract which he said would protect the warranty. The big item he said was I needed to move the whole furnace and AC heat exchanger several feet in order to have balanced service to each room of the house. I said hmmm your company installed everything including the duct work and noone mentioned moving the unit before. I just had new and modern duct work put in last year so if I did what he suggested all the ductwork connections would have to be lengthened or shortened. I said sounds like a lot of work. He denied this but I just said "no thanks" I'm a Civil Engineer and have limited training and exp in HVAC but can you imagine the effect on the average person? Especially Older people.
