Allegations of rape at Columbia

I'd like to get some opinions on the allegations of rape and sexual assault in the case of Emma Sulkowicz, a student at Columbia who is protesting a finding of not guilty by the university by carrying a mattress around campus. You may have heard of this case. Sulkowicz has received a lot of coverage in the media through this form of protest, and she was even invited to attend the State of the Union address as a guest of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

But I just read an article that appeared in The Daily Beast a few months ago where the accused rapist, Paul Nungesser, tells his side of the story. It's a bit long. After reading it, it seems to be a case of he-said/she-said, essentially. But there's also some circumstantial evidence that doesn't seem to fit with the rape allegation. For example, various communications from Sulkowicz to Nungesser in the days and weeks after the supposed rape in which she seemed to not be upset with him at all; quite the opposite. She did not immediately report the rape, and in fact appears to have been on friendly terms with him for several weeks, even months after it allegedly occurred. I guess that doesn't prove anything by itself, but it seems odd if she had been violently assaulted by him. In any event, the university did its process and concluded that there wasn't enough evidence to punish him. Nonetheless, many people in the media seem to have taken her side in this.

Anyway, this is the article:
