UK Bill for an EU Referendum passes its first hurdle

Today the first step for a UK referendum on membership of the EU passed its first hearing unopposed. Is this an indication of the panic caused by UKIP and the Euro Skeptics or are there positive reason why the UK should want to come out of Europe. Personally, I feel that we have benefitted greatly from our membership.
