I watched the uncensored video of the 8/19/14 James Foley "beheading" again and it looks fake to me. It's badly acted, and the "special effect" of the beheading is worthy of a 10 year old attempting a viral video.
i'm skeptical of conspiracies in general, but hoaxes are unfortunately common to convince populations to approve going to war, like the "Nayirah testimony" hoax "arranged by the big public relations firm of Hill & Knowlton on behalf of a client, the Kuwaiti-sponsored Citizens for a Free Kuwait, which was then pressing Congress for military intervention."
