I don't know where this belongs but it certainly is a social issue in my book. Is there any way under the sun to stop companies with web sites from registering us with Facebook without our permission? I am very tired of fighting this.
This week I had to renew my virus scanner subscription. They use an intermediate company to handle that for them. After I renewed I got an email asking me to review the service. Click one of five ratings and submit. Fine. Nothing there about Facebook until I hit submit. Then a new page told me I was now registered at Facebook.
This has happened to me far too often. I don't know what anyone else calls it but I call it entrapment when they get your name and then - only then - announce that you are now part of Facebook. I've written to Facebook headquarters twice protesting this but it does not good.
I suppose there is nothing I can do? Surely there is some way to prevent this entrapment?
