When people do something good they deserve to be applauded for it, even by those who disagree with them on other things (such as politics).
Glenn Beck is doing a very good thing. And much as I dislike almost everything else he says and does, I applaud him for it.
And I am pleased to see that Beck is being applauded for this by people on the left. At Daily Kos a diary was posted almost immediately after this story broke praising Beck for this and the diary quickly made it to the Daily Kos recommended list (meaning other posters there felt this was something worth saying and discussing).
Even more to the point is a post by Michael Luciano at The Daily Banter: Ok Liberals, Its Time For Us To Give Glenn Beck a Little Credit For Once

Glenn Beck is no fan of liberals, and liberals arent fans of his. But in the spirit of giving credit where credit is due, Beck warrants props for doing the exact opposite of what a screaming pack of protesters did last week in California. In that ugly episode, three busloads of young immigrants who had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally had to turn back en route to a Border Patrol facility because an angry mob blocked their path while chanting Go home!, We want to be safe, and USA! USA! Now the easiest way for a guy like Beck to elicit nods of agreement from listeners would be to piggyback onto the protesters cause if yelling at children can be called that and decry those who jump the border into the U.S. illegally. But thats not what happened. Speaking on TheBlaze TV, Beck announced that on July 19, he and a group of lawmakers, clergy, and others were heading to the horrendously under-supplied immigration detention facility at the Border Patrol station McAllen, Texas: "Were going to fill some tractor-trailers with food, with water. The churches have asked us if we could bring teddy bears and soccer balls, so weve loaded up a whole tractor-trailer of nothing but teddy bears and soccer balls. And then Im going to go serve breakfast and lunch, and Im going to help unload these trucks, hot meals for 3,000. Thats what were doing. His reasoning was simple, and something that could have easily come from the mouth of a liberal: Through no fault of their own, they are caught in political crossfire. And while we continue to put pressure on Washington and change its course of lawlessness, we must also help. It is not either, or. It is both. We have to be active in the political game, and we must open our hearts." |
