6 Horrors of Being an Atheist in a Fundamentalist Country

Cracked ran this article today:

It goes without saying that, compared to Jo, I have it easy. I've never had to face imprisonment, public humiliation, beatings, or death threats because of my lack of beliefs. I'm thankful to live in a country where I can freely express my views and believe what I want. The most atheism has ever cost me were a few scum-sucking friends who were never my friends in the first place. It takes more guts than I will ever have to stay true to yourself in the face of systemic bigotry, corruption, and oppression. Had I been in Jo's position, I might have lied or played along just to protect myself and my family.

It would be a shame if Jo were forced to return to Bangladesh after getting out alive. There might be some extremists in America, but like the article says, they're in the minority and you can argue with them. Let's keep it that way.
