Ok, so I'll admit I know very little of the fine details of evolution, I've read "Origin of Species" and a few more up to date articles but that's it.
Anyway I got into a bit of a discussion with someone who is claiming that-
"changes in genes do not result in something better; but rather to the detriment of the being. Genes and DNA, when they change, do not move forward. They move backward. That's the really short story;."
There can be variety within a species, such as the famous changes in a species of moth to match the changing color of trees; or the slight changes in shell of the galapagos tortoise varieties. But these are not the same as "evolution". These are mere variety within a species, such as the difference in coat lengths in cats. These animals are not "evolving" into anything new, nor will they. Look at this and you will see what happens whenever there are slight changes to the human gene sequence. http://ift.tt/PvcJtm
On the other hand, show me a change in the human gene sequence that has EVER resulted in anything positive, such as greater strength, better vision, ANYTHING "
Well I'll admit I'm over my head. I know this person is wrong, but I don't know how to provide a rebuttal. I'm going through talk origins right now but if an one here who knows biology could chime in, that would be great.
