Quantum theory=super natural?

I've noticed that some new age authors use quantum physics to prove that their beliefs are based on hard science. They say that quantum particles don't become an object unless you observe them, and they're just a wave or frequency when they're not being looked at. "Everything is made up of these quantum particles, so therefore reality only exists when we observe it" is what these authors are saying. I was wondering what the more materialist approach to quantum theory is, because I've never read anything from those authors, and people here usually have a good way of explaining those sorts of things. I'm guessing the majority of physicists aren't of the opinion that quantum theory gives any validity to the law of attraction, or any other new age theories.

I should add that the implication of the new age theory of all of this is that what we focus on comes into existence based on quantum science, because of the observer effect. I have never heard a counter argument to this theory.
