Dehydrated from drinking TOO MUCH water?

I had some blood lab work done after a doctor visit yesterday.

One of the tests showed that my hemoglobin count was slightly off (I don't recall if it was slightly elevated or slightly low).

In the email I received regarding the test results, it read "Looks like you are slightly dehydrated. That is the likely cause of your slightly high/low hemoglobin count. You should be drinking 5-6 cups of water each day, and no more than one cup" (I inferred that it meant "no more than one cup per meal/sitting").

Thing is, I drink a lot of water every day. A LOT. Here is my liquids intake on an average day:

BREAKFAST:

20-30 oz. 1% Milk

20-30 oz. Water (w/Mio or Crystal Light flavoring)

LUNCH:

20-30 oz. Water (w/Mio or Crystal Light flavoring)

DINNER:

20-30 oz. Water (w/Mio or Crystal Light flavoring)

There are usually one or two snacks throughout the day, during each of which I drink yet another 20-30 oz. of flavored water.

I know that it is possible to drink too much water. Water Intoxication can result - even death. But I don't seem to be even approaching that level of intake.

I'll follow my doctor's advice (or try to, anyway. One cup per meal will take some getting used to...), but just thought I'd post about it here.

DE-hydration, from drinking TOO MUCH water just seems so...counterintuitive to me.

And here I thought that drinking all that water was a GOOD thing!!
