I'm sure I asked the same question some years ago, but the situation has definitely gotten worse.
What shape could such a split take?
Classical conservatives splitting off, or the Tea party types?
I think the a GOP, unhindered by the Tea weirdo's could come back in force. And a lot of people in that party must dream about.
I don't really see the next Reagan* waiting in the wings, but surely, once they get someone charismatic to take the lead it should be possible.
*Not setting the bar too high here, I'd even settle for resurrected Nixon.
