Saw this being covered in a few places over the last week or so.
I think its quite amazing that we can still identify very significant whole glands/organs despite how much we have researched and studied human anatomy for hundreds of years.
Its even more astonishing in this case when you consider that doctors have known something can happen to patients ability to produce saliva after radiation treatment even though they attempt to avoid all the known glands and the glands still produce saliva. Happened to my mother and the explanation given was we dont know why this happens in some patients, its one of those things. The reason why they didnt look for these glands or consider some other glands might be being damaged by radiation was because theyd been taught the locations of all the salivary glands in the head.
(You may have seen this reported as a new organ in the mainstream press, before you have a go at the mainstream press, new organ is how the lead researcher refers to it in interviews.)
