"Rainbow tick" tries to blackmail NZ Uni

Actually kind of not blackmail as the uni could just tell them to **** off, which I would, but they can't really or the uni would look bad.

Short intro

Rainbow tick is a self appointed, non-elected, self proclaimed authoriser to organisations to say they are rainbow friendly.

Basically organisations give them 3k a year to get to put a "tick" on their promos to say they don't hate the gays and trans.

University which has the tick, hires out hall to feminists, but apparently they are bad feminists, as opposed to good feminists. TERFS.

Threats follow.

As an aside, I think anyone who has to pay someone to show they don't hate trans people is a bit of an idiot

Massey University Rainbow Tick likely to be reviewed if controversial 'feminist' event goes ahead

Massey University may lose its Rainbow Tick if it hosts a controversial radical "feminist" event at its Wellington campus in November.

Rainbow Tick is a business that allocates an accreditation for organisations that complete a diversity and inclusion assessment process.

Massey received its accreditation in August 2017.

However, Rainbow Tick acting president Martin King said the university's plan to host an anti-transgender "feminist" event would likely trigger a review of its Rainbow Tick certification.

"Feminism 2020" has been organised by Speak Up For Women, a group which has campaigned against gender self-identification on birth certificates and the inclusion of transgender women in women's sport.

Speakers include Canadian blogger Meghan Murphy, who has been banned from Twitter for violating its "hateful conduct" policy.

King said Rainbow Tick "absolutely" did not support groups that incited "any conversation that is anti-trans".

Based on the information Rainbow Tick had, the Feminism 2020 organisers were one of those groups.

Rainbow Tick was in conversation with Massey about the event.

UniQ president Jaden Brooks said it was a "really clear way of Massey saying they [don't] care about their trans students".

"We don't need flags and posters, we need this hate group to not be speaking on campus."

On Monday UniQ, which was an advocacy group for rainbow people on campus, met to discuss the event booking.

The recent Counting Ourselves data showed how vulnerable the community was to discrimination.

Brooks said the students association was working with UniQ and external organisations to start a petition calling for Massey to cancel the event, and he was considering complaining to Rainbow Tick.

On Tuesday a Massey University spokesperson said it would "not be making any further comment at this time".
