I always wondered how much that bank of TV and satellite box and speakers etc costs to leave on standby the whole time, so bought a £10 plug-in device to measure its overnight usage in kWh. Answer - bugger all. Too little to worry about.
And we have a lot of big stand-up fans around, rated at 50-60W. On max they appear to use more like 35W.
The big question: how can I trust the meter to measure power use reliably? Is there something that runs at a reasonably standard rate, just to test the meter itself? I'm thinking that a lightbulb might fit the bill.
Just curious :)
