There is a an official scientific term for carnivores or omnivores that are at the top of the food chain. They are called "Apex Predators". These are animals that are big enough and strong enough that while they hunt, no other creature hunts them.
What I'm wondering is if there is a similar term for herbaphores. While they are not at the top of the food chain, animals like the elephant, hippo and rhinos have achieved the status of being "too big to hunt" and have no natural predators. (except for their young)
I just wanted to know if there is an official term that describes this? I've searched but I can't find one.
