Fort Bliss Soldier Shows Moments Before His Death While In Custody
Sad case here.
Quote:
In July of 2012, Sgt. James Brown, a Fort Bliss soldier checked himself in to the El Paso county jail on a Friday to serve a two day DWI sentence in El Paso, Texas. He left in a casket. News team KFOX14 fought their way to the Texas attorney general to obtain video footage of what happened to Sgt. Brown, which has just been released – the footage is extremely disturbing. |

Brown, a veteran of two tours in Iraq suffered from PTSD – yet checked in with perfect health. There were no drugs or alcohol in his system. When he arrived, the detention center tried to pull a bait and switch on the length of his stay. “He said they’re trying to make me stay seven days instead of two days, so i just want to pay the court fine and get out of here,” said Dinette Robinson-Scott, Brown’s mother. She paid the entire fine in-full the following morning – but Brown was already dead. As the video shows, at some point Brown appeared to have some sort of episode in his cell – causing him to bleed. A guard arrived, attempting to question Brown through the door. When he did not answer, an entire team of guards in riot gear stormed his cell. Brown does not resist, not once, during the entirety of what follows. He cries out to the guards over, and over, “I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!,” as the gang of guards climb all over the top of him – crushing him – though he continues to not resist. |
