Today, in In the Pipeline (Derek Lowe's Chem and related blog) are two winning stories of error and trauma (oops, make that Tramadol).
1st up is a neat graphic of aqueous recharge of a battery which was laugh inducing - but not to the authors(6), peer-reviewers and editor(s) who all missed a problem or two with it.
Directly under that is a commentary on the very surprising paper/discovery last year that a drug made synthetically for a while now (Tramadol) was being produced naturally by a particular type of tree in Cameroon (Africa for the geographically challenged). This was considered highly unusual, but...
It turns out that was not quite what happens there.....
Both fun reads and go to show that even if it is peer reviewed you have to be careful!!!!!
Note, after today (Mon. Sept. 15) this will not necessarily lead right to these two - they are today's leads and will stay in order with tomorrow's (etc.)above them as the days flow by!!! Enjoy!!!!!
