Having a recent, strong reminder of my mortality, makes me wonder how many old geezers, such as me, start thinking it couldn't hurt to have some religion. My mind has rejected religion in spite of pounding and thumping by clerics etc. so the question is: would pro forma going to church give enough points for one to stay out of the super torrid zone with the sadistic fellow with the pitchfork at the final expiration date? I'm pretty sure there have been a lot of deathbed conversions of suspect sincerity. On the other hand in order to "make the cheese more binding" would a person need to become a sincere convert? My older brother said it well for me "I'd like to believe but I can't". I shall always respect his honesty.
