Did any historical culture ever settle on Antarctica?

Antarctica is probably the most hostile land area in the world for humans to live. No human culture there has survived until modern time (I won't count the few research scientists temporarily residing there now).

The Arctic (in the form of Greenland) has historically had 7 or 8 distinct cultures there (one being the Norse from Europe, the rest being various Inuit cultures). Only one of these cultures survived into modern times, the rest died out.

I wonder, are there any known cultures from history that settled in Antarctica, but died out or left? If they did, they should have left traces. South America and possibly the southern tip of Africa are quite close, so it's not geographically impossible.
