What makes somebody intelligent?

I've taken a couple IQ tests, and the questions in them definitely require a level of thinking that is totally beyond me. When reading the question I have to remember multiple parts of information from the question in my head, and then be able to recall that information in answering the latter part of the question, and this is just too much for me!

It's not just about memorizing how to find x in a formula. These questions involve some real mental aerobics that I can't do. Does this mean I have less grey matter in my brain than most people do, or the left (logical) side of my brain is inferior? I guess that would be tough for somebody to answer in an internet forum without knowing me.

Also when somebody says that something is 100 meters or yards away from them, then I have no idea how they could know this. How can somebody imagine 100 yards? I can imagine a foot, maybe two, but a hundred yards? That's really impressive. I'm usually only aware of about two or three feet in front of me.
