Now That the Democrats Control the House...

... I see the next couple years playing out one of two ways.

Option 1:
House Democrats push for something - anything - they can use to start impeachment proceedings. With any luck, Mueller will give them something to work with before they lose too much time. Whatever it is, they take what they have, and vote to impeach.

The House makes its case to the Senate, and the GOP-controlled Senate votes to retain President Trump. Naturally, the President and his base take this as vindication, exoneration even. Energized by this result, he's motivated to run again in 2020. Demoralized and humiliated Democrats go down to defeat in the election, and lose even the gains of this year's blue wave.

Option 2:
House Democrats see which side their bread is buttered on, and focus on cockblocking GOP legislation for the next two years. Nothing much gets done, and if they don't rise to President Trump's bait and try to fight whatever empty tweetstorm battle he's offering that day, he might actually get tired of presidentin' by 2020. Confident and energized, the Democrats shore up their position in the legislature, and take back the presidency.

Basically the two options are, try to impeach, or not try to impeach. It'll be interesting to see which one prevails, and how it plays out, between now and 2020.
