ethernet connection dead-ends

Recently moved to accommodation with "free" access to internet but can't connect. Assistance appreciated for this tech-phobe. :)

Landlord supplied me a passowrd with instructions to get ethernet cable then open browser. I got a CAT6 cable after the CAT5e got me zilch. The CAT6 gets me to a white security page with warning about address not matching page I am being directed to. I select continue anyway and get a logon page. I log in and am in my account with welcome message.

Then, when I select continue I get a new window with the logon page again.

If, instead, I select a favorite while logged in my account (ie: google icon from favorites bar) I get another white security warning page in a new window.

Landlord now informs me he knows a computer guy who can fix the issue for $150.00. I pay if it's my computer at fault. Says he is willing to pay it's the accommodation set-up that's at fault.

That'll do for now. I've tried what I can and have found other dead ends. Just trying to narrow it down for now.

I contacted landlord and asked for correct logon URL days ago. No response.

I'm a low-end user so simple and "free" connection will do just fine. Only, I can't connect.

Advice sought.
