Some of it is pretty bizarre, and not necessarily the sort of thing you would normally expect state propaganda to be.
Here is one recent example:
Viral video of feminist pouring bleach on manspreaders debunked as Russian propaganda
There's some good analysis in the article, so I recommend reading it.
The target here is neither another country nor to boost Russia's own image. Rather it appears to be propaganda to make feminists look bad. I saw a Youtube video about it a few days ago and I thought it was fake at the time (the thought also occurred to me that it might be propaganda; now that seems to be confirmed). There are many clues that it's fake. It supposedly shows a "feminist" on a train pouring "bleach" on the genitals of men who were "manspreading". In most cases they had plenty of room and were just minding their own business. If it were real, why wasn't she arrested or beaten up? It would be a very serious crime if it were real. Not to mention that she doesn't really look like a radical feminist, and I doubt even the most radical of radical feminists would think that this was a good idea.
So the basic goal seems to be nothing more than to undermine feminism and other liberal Western ideas.

Quote:
Why would this be of interest as Kremlin propaganda? This seems like not a large issue for the state government. Why would they help to fund something like this? The only goal is to stir anti-feminist sort of [sentiment] in people around the world particularly people in the West. Once this goes back to Russia ... it's a talking point where they can go back and sort of stir support in the more conservative parts of the country. There was one politician ... from Putin's party who said really nasty things about this activist and about feminists in general. So it allows them to use a piece of content to actually bring back certain points about how important it is to keep a conservative society and how we shouldn't be misled by liberal or radical, liberal ideas like feminism. |
