Today is Ada Lovelace Day, a celebration of the contribution and achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Ada Lovelace was the daughter of the poet Lord Byron but is best remembered for her work with Charles Babbage. She is often considered the inventor of computer programming and was the first person to realise that computers could do much more than number crunching.
