A friend of mine called me on Friday saying he had an issue with IIS on Server 2012 R2.
I make my living with computers. I figured a major issue with him was a 5 minute fix for me, so I headed on over with the thought of taking a few minutes to fix the issue and then playing Overwatch on an awesome PC.
Those of you that have worked on computers are shaking your heads, because you remembered what I had forgotten: Computers love hubris.
He was having issues with IIS, so he removed and replaced IIS. Everything is working perfectly, except for one item. Before the R&R he had a web site called WebCrm. Now, when we try and create that web site we get the following error:
ERROR ( hresult:800700b7, message:Failed to commit configuration changes.
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.)
Usually this means that the port is already taken, It is not. Here's the kicker:
We can create a web site of any other name with no issue. But the web site must have that name.
A remove and replace is out since there are other programs running on IIS now that we don't want to go through and reinstall. I've checked the applicationshosts.config file for any web site by that name, there is none that I can see.
I've got a feeling there is some "ghost" web site out there but I am not familiar enough with IIS to find it, so I'm turning to the brain trust here.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
