Presentation Summary:
Todays children have a wealth of information at their fingertips more than at any other time in human history. With the proliferation of the Internet, social media, and 24-hour news networks, we are all bombarded with information, and not all of it is good information. Launched in 2015 as an alternative to the evangelical Good News Club, Young Skeptics aims to assist elementary school children in their search for whats real, while enabling them to reject unsupported claims. Young Skeptics aim is to teach children how to think, not what to think.
Presenter Bio:
Kevin Davis is a secular activist focused mainly on fighting back against the harms that aggressive indoctrination can cause, especially in public school settings. He's the head writer and editor for SecularVoices, a Patheos blog, and is the co-founder and Executive Director of Young Skeptics, an elementary-level after school program for kids, focused on critical thinking and evidence based reasoning. His first book, Understanding an Atheist: A Practical Guide to Relating to Nonbelievers is aimed at improving relationships between the religious and their atheist loved ones. Kevin has delivered presentations to small secular groups and larger conferences, including the Reason Rally and the Ark Encounter Protest and Rally in 2016.
Central New York Skeptics (CNY Skeptics) is a community organization dedicated to the promotion of science and reason, the investigation of paranormal and fringe-science claims, and the improvement of standards for science education and critical-thinking skills.
