My father suffers from the later stages of Alzheimer's disease. My mother is naturally looking at any hints of a cure, and was directed to an article in a popular science magazine about an article in Nature.
The article in the popular science magazine claimed that the researchers had found that the plaque that covers parts of the brain had been seen to regress when treated with the antibody aducanumab. Clinical tests had been performed, and results of phase I tests showed significantly improved results when compared to a placebo group. I have found the article in Nature, but I am not proficient to interpret what this means for someone already suffering from Alzheimers.
The questions I would ask are as follows:
1. Is this looking like it could be a cure for the disease?
2. If so, what effect would this cure have for someone already suffering from the disease?
