Why passing gun control bills is hard.

Look at the drawing at the top of the page; must be a clue as to the parody-like substance of the article.
It seems if the author doesn't like some kind of firearm, just make up a "fact" and assume that the readers are stupid enough to believe it.

Quote:

The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence reports that half of mass shooters use these magazines. Statistics compiled by the Violence Policy Center in Washington, D.C., show that just in the years Barack Obama has been president, there have been 18 mass shootings involving high-capacity magazines, killing 1153 people and wounding 137 more.
I doubt it.

Quote:

•Outlaw the public display of weapons.
Why? What would this accomplish? Would it extend to the media also?

Quote:

High-capacity magazines have been the accessory of choice for most mass killers in the U.S. Adam Lanza, the shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary School who killed 20 children and six adults in 2012, used 30-round magazines.
30 round magazines for the ar-15 are standard capacity.

Silencers, for example. While they are subject to minimal federal regulation and already banned in 10 states, they are easily obtained and big sellers.
First time I heard "minimal" defined as paying a $200 tax for a $20 muffler, obtaining a police chief signature that they are under no obligation to give, 10 years/$10k for evading the tax or sentencing enhancements of 20 years and up for misuse.

Quote:

There is no reason anyone outside of law enforcement or the military needs one (silencer) except to kill people without attracting attention.
Really? So I've been making my own registered silencers for the last 12 years so I can kill people without attracting attention? Does Kurt Eichenwald (the author) really think silencers make a gun silent?

Quote:

According to the NRA, every armed madman or criminal is a responsible, law-abiding good guy with a gun until the moment his first bullet splatters the walls with the brains and blood of innocent people.
I'm not a fan of the NRA, but I don't think they actually ever took this position.

Quote:

Polls show overwhelming support for checks—as much as 92 percent in a Quinnipiac University poll from last year, including 86 percent of Republicans.
Gee, I wonder why no one sponsors a bkgd check bill without all the other garbage that ensures it fails?

Quote:

For example, the barrel shroud and the folding stock were banned in 1994, then legalized in 2003.
Not true. New manufacture and import of some guns with these features was prohibited. They were not completely banned by any stretch of the imagination.
