Was DADT a step in the right direction?

No poll because I want this to be a discussion but I have heard it argued that "Don't Ask / Don't Tell" was a positive move while others argued that it is not. This of course is when it was enacted.

Examples of why it might have been negative was that I have read that more gays were kicked out of the military afterward than before hand.

Curious what your opinions are?
