Upon startup this morning I got a flash of the blue screen. I didn't/couldn't note any of the codes. Still can't - see below.
The first thing it tells you, which I assume is the MS norm is that you have a problem and it wants to run Startup Repair. Okay, it runs SR and scans all the files then says it's repairing stuff and then tries to reboot and you get your 4 choices... Start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode With Networking, Safe Mode with Prompt, Start Normally.
First choice, since it seems to have done some fixing is start in normal mode. No Good. Blue Screen of Death Again.
Second choice, it starts in Safe Mode.
> I tried to run chkdsk (the automated version not the "command prompt" version. It wouldn't let me chk my C drive because it was in use.
IS THIS A CLUE? Or am I just stupid and have some C programs running on startup? I ticked the option to check the disc on the next start-up but I've seen no indication that it did so.
> Did the same thing from the DOS command prompt. Same results.
> I tried to go to Lenovo to upload their diagnostics. Won't let me load.
> I tried to go to MS to upload their debugger. Won't load. It encountered problems uploading a needed Adobe component and shut itself down.
>>> I wanted both of the above because I wanted to be able to read the dump from the blue screen.
???? Is there another way to read that information, or do I have to start the thing as many times as is necessary to copy those lines down on a piece of paper? ????
> I'm running MSE in the background right now.
> Oh, and I even tried a system restore. It referred to my last MS patch uploads which weren't that long ago, but it didn't do away with the blue screen problem.
I'll report back when the Securities Essentials scan completes, but I expect nothing from that.
