The UK CPI is negative for the first time in around 55 years (the RPI dipped into negative territory a few years ago). This is apparently due to external factors such as low fuel costs and so on rather than the UK entering a deflationary spiral which will be a financial millstone for years if not decades.

Personally I tend towards the view that this isn't a bad thing so long as that assessment is correct and that in a few months we'll have a manageable positive inflation rate.
