School has dress code for 6th grade pool party - sexism/body shaming, or overreaction

It says all girls must wear a nonwhite tshirt over their swimsuit; everyone must wear flip flops if possible; and no Speedos.

From my perspective, I admit that there are far more rules governing what girls can wear in school than what boys can wear. However, this specifies what girls can wear AND what boys can wear. It may be poorly worded, but let's be honest, the rule "no Speedos" is clearly directed at boys.

Some ask 'why don't boys have to wear shirts', or just ignore the rule directed at boys entirely. Some go as far as saying that asking a girl to cover up is shaming them, like a burqa or something.

So devil's advocate, what if the note had said no clothes allowed, so no one had to be 'shamed'? Yeah, some parents would have a problem with that.

What do you think? Is this much ado about nothing, or is it right on?
