In a fine display of international cooperation, American and British intelligence agencies have decided that everyone's cell phone conversations are their business, and went for the source by hacking Gemalto, a major producer of SIM cards. Gemalto is not happy, although there have already been suggestions that the company's chairman may have his toes dipped into the whole affair.
Another Snowden nugget, apparently. The man certainly came away with the goods.
There are a couple of people with whom I keep casual chat contact that refuse to use any service that doesn't do its own end-to-end encryption (like Threema). I must say that doesn't feel quite as paranoid now as it did a few days ago.
