Virginia lawmaker re-elected despite jail term for relationship with 17-year-old

This is an interesting choice made by voters regarding sex offenders/offences. Of course, only 6700 of the 53,000 eligible voters voted. Sounds like it might be another case like Rob Ford in Toronto where his supporters turn out in droves while no one else really cares enough to vote:

It's not every day that a politician with a county jail-issued ankle monitor -- accused of having sex with his 17-year-old secretary -- campaigns for re-election, and wins. The election was a special one, called to fill Morrissey's seat after he resigned from office after pleading guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the Washington Post.

And apparently there is going to be more court action by the girl's father:

Search warrants allege that fraudulent documents were entered into court records during sentencing proceedings last month for Del. Joseph D. Morrissey, who on Tuesday night won a special election to keep his seat in the legislature. Myrna Pride, now 18, appeared publicly on a radio program Monday supporting Morrissey and denouncing her father, but has refused to say who the father of her unborn child is. She has said repeatedly that she did not have sex with Morrissey.
