This isn't about executions its about being in the presence of someone you feel is going to die and then it happens.
I'm 67 and back in 2000 I was visiting a friend I had not seen in a few years. He had gained an enormous amount of weight and he smoked. He smoked a lot in fact and he was one of those smokers who blew smoke in copious amounts out of his nose. I made this remark. "You and I aren't getting any younger so why don't we lose some weight and you quit that smoking"? He said " I enjoy it".
He was a 18 wheeler and he was found dead of a heart attack in his truck a month later. I was a pall bearer at his funeral.
I was sitting at a bar and this overweight young man with diabetes was knocking down one beer after another. When I said why are you drinking with diabetes he just laughed. I went to the same pub the very nest week and he had died. A Mexican friend did the same thing.
A gay co worker who had a drinking problem made a fool out of himself at a company party and I tried to talk to him after his life partner had beat the crap out of him. I said its one thing to be gay but its another thing to be a drunk. He and his partner both succumbed to aid about a year later.
I look int my mirror to see if my time has come and it hasn't. I drink lightly, exercise a bit, never smoked and I eat lots of fruit and veggies. I eat meat only sparingly. My mother is 92 and she looks great for a woman her age.
Anyone here have similar experiences?
