What is it about the British?

Two stories from the Daily Mail that fill me with disgust and contempt for the British and their fabled 'sense of humour':

First

X Factor wannabes reportedly enjoyed the free booze on board a BA flight back to Gatwick after performing at Mel B's house in Mexico that airline staff had to close the bar.

The male contestants, who were travelling from Cancun after performing at the Spice Girl's pad, allegedly made so much noise on the night flight, stewards were forced to get involved.

It is claimed that passengers were left disgruntled by the rowdy antics and the men 'knocking back drinks like they were going out of fashion'.

As one who used to fly to Amsterdam twice-weekly on Thursday or Friday nights I have more than my share of experience of these hilariously funny loud-mouths and their revolting, attention-seeking behaviour.

Or there's this:

Quote:

Tour operator Thomas Cook has been ordered to pay more than £2,000 to a couple who says their dream getaway was ruined by ‘loutish yobs’ and filthy conditions at their resort.

John and Tracey Erskine, who have been married for 20 years, were expecting a relaxing trip on the Mediterranean coast in Turkey when they splurged on the holiday in September 2012.

But they say Thomas Cook didn’t deliver on its promise of an ‘outstanding holiday experience’ and their stay turned into a nightmare.

The grandparents, who represented themselves during the hearing, complained that they were verbally abused by ‘loutish yobs’ in an apartment just 15ft away and one man from the group performed a sex act on himself on the balcony.

Admittedly, this article does not actually say the 'yobs' were British but they probably were (a) because the Mail would certainly have said so if they were disgusting foreigners and (b) that's how these resorts work, collecting customers from the same part of the world.

This story is from a couple of years ago, also from the DM but it could certainly be reproduced now:

Quote:

It is meant to be the season to be jolly - but Britain's towns and cities descended into chaos last night as binge-drinkers ditched festive spirit for mindless violence.

On the day colloquially known as 'black eye Friday', police officers packed town centres on one of their busiest nights of the year.

The last Friday before Christmas is traditionally a rowdy night due to the huge number of office parties taking place, the end of the academic term and workers being given Christmas bonuses.

But rather than embracing festive merriment, many revellers simply resorted to base behaviour - brawling, vomiting and urinating in public.

One police force was kept so busy by drunken louts that all of its cells were occupied overnight.

A spokesman from Cumbria Police said it had made between 50 - 60 arrests related to anti-social behaviour offences and said that every cell in the county was full.

Is it all being exaggerated by the Mail (very possibly although it chimes with my own, thankfully - but not accidentally - limited, experience) or is it the same all over the world?
