14 year old facing up to two years in Juvie for face humping Jesus statue.

Source: Bedford County Free Press Facebook page. I am unable to provide a link as I've not yet made the post quota to do so.

He's being charged with "Desecration of a venerated object", which can carry up to a two year penalty.

I doubt he'll actually get the maximum and will probably end up with community service, but this **** is just stupid. This was in no way an act worthy of criminal charges, hell it's not even worth a fine.

It's well worth going to the FB page and checking out the comments. Some people have a level head about it, others are amusing and crude, and of course there are the idiots that don't understand why this sort of thing shouldn't be a criminal offense to begin with and think he should be burned at the stake.

He'll probably be getting a good lawyer courtesy of "Truth Wins Out" an organization that has argued the law he's being charged with breaking is unconstitutional because of the establishment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

Edit: A statement from the FB page of the organization that owns the statue...

There has been much controversy over an incident that occurred on God's Property, also known as Love INC of Bedford County. We feel clarification is needed regarding this incident. Facts were not verified, assumptions were made by many, the facts follow:

The Ministry requested prayer for a teen who publicly posted a picture of himself on Facebook with the statue of Jesus located at Love INC. This is all Love INC of Bedford County did, Love INC did not initiate any action or press any charges, we prayed for this teen and requested others pray for him.

A couple of weeks ago the teen came in to our office and apologized for what he had done. His apology was accepted, we talked with him and told him that if there were repercussions for his actions Love INC was not responsible for them, and we ended our time together by praying with him. We continue praying for him, any followers, and all who have become vocal regarding this incident.

Cute, but they also do not appear to be taking any action to prevent the young man from being dragged under the bus for this. They are basically washing their hands of the matter and based on the statement and the subsequent comments below it, it appears they are willing to sit on their hands and allow it to happen while claiming to have no involvement with the charges being pressed.

I find it hard to believe they can do nothing to help the boy beyond "Praying with him" and could be doing a lot more to make it clear they want the charges dropped. If this keeps going on I've little doubt they're going to have lots of visitors showing up who think their statue has a "purty mouth", and likely a rash of statue humpers across the country as this becomes more widely publicized. I think it's in their best interests to see this resolved quickly with the boy being let off and sent back home to his parents. They should have been the ones to deal with this to begin with and the government should never have gotten involved.
