All this talk about ALS and the Ice Bucket Challenge keeps me thinking about NobbyNobs, Michael Strieb, who passed away last year. He suffered from ALS, and the JREF Forum community watched him go through his slow decline.
The JREF Forum was his only way to communicate with a group outside his hospital bed, and when he lost the ability to type, the community, lead by Starthinker, pulled together and raised enough money to buy him a machine that would read his eye movements.
So, two thoughts: Raising money for ALS is a good thing. And the JREF Forum has meant and awful lot to some important people.
Here's an article Michael wrote for the JREF's Swift blog.
